I've had issues with ASUS' proprietary backup utility Backtracker and don't trust it. I've tried using create a repair disc and system image (Windows 7 Recovery menu) and the ASUS doesn't recognize the repair disk. I purchased another version of Windows 8 so I could create a repair disc and system image from that, but the installation process has me scratching my head.
All through the installation I entered the product key for the new version of Windows 8. Yet when it came time to see if I could restore my system from the repair disc, I was told the product keys don't match. To be honest, I've tried so many things now, I can't tell what state my N550JV is in. I sent it back to ASUS to see if they can get the system back to square one. But when I get the laptop back, I want to be sure I can create a repair disc and system image that will actually restore the unit to the state of my last backup - not to the state of date of purchase. I don't want to reinstall from the restore partition - except as a complete last resort. In fact, I would prefer backup discs over restore from partition and would like to jettison all the partitions on the disc drive except for C: . In the old days you could setup your own system with the Windows product disc. Now it seems impossible.
The Best Solution to Reset Forgotten Asus Password in Windows 8. For Asus laptop password recovery in windows 8, the perfect solution is to use Windows Password Recovery Tool. This software can help you easily reset or change Asus Windows 8 password for both local account and Microsft account, without system reinstallation.
I don't have access to the product key or copy of Windows that was installed on the ASUS. They recommend Backtracker as their backup and recovery option, but it doesn't run to completion on the backup side, neither does it run to completion on the recovery side. Last but not least, you're stuck at the state of date of purchase when done with Backtracker.
